These are the track notes from our forthcoming CD. Other updates to follow soon.
Track 1 Priddy Pookah; G.Davis arr. KTM
Inspired by a mischievous sprite that made Ginny and John undergo an extensive search for the lighter when wanting to
light the gas stove to make cup of tea whilst camping in Somerset at the Priddy Folk Festival 2008. Moral of the story; always
recheck that first pocket!!! This tune is in 7/8.
Track 2 Wildman of Orford; - J. Ramirez/G.Davis arr KTM
Near where we live on the East coast of Suffolk is an ancient fishing port called Orford. In 1167 a strange event occurred
-when a live merman was caught, taken to the village and kept imprisoned. We couldn't find any songs about him, so John wrote
the catchy refrain and Ginny wrote the verses.
Track 3 Slipstream; J. Ramirez arr. KTM
This is affectionately called the plastic bag tune. John had the bass line for a new tune in his head as he driving, when
he saw a plastic bag being swept along caught in the slipstream of a truck. On further investigation by Ginny he realised
he had written it in 15/8!
Track 4 Little Musgrave; trad, arr. KTM
Virtually no introduction need for this well-known folk song. This is our own condensed interpretation of Child's Ballads
81 "The Old ballad of Little Musgrave and the Lady Barnard"
Track 5 The Breizh Set; trad/trad/J.Ramirez arr. KTM
The first of these tunes is a Breton Catholic processional called Kantikal de Doue Gentan with a challenging time signature
of 18/8 and 15/8 alternating bars. The second is the gavotte St Hern, an example of the lively dance music found in central
Brittany. The final tune is Les Sabots des Korrigans, or the Korrigans Clogs, a jig written by John and inspired by the music
of this land. The Korrigan is a distant Breton relative of the Pookah.
Track 6 Ha Min Sgith; Trad, arr KTM
Also know as The Fairy Love Song, we have been playing this Hebridean song for a number of years in differing arrangements.
It is one of the several songs we have gleaned from Marjorie Kennedy Frasers' collection From The Hebrides.
Track 7 Middleton Moor; - J Ramirez arr. KTM
In the darkest depths of late Autumn in coastal Suffolk, we drove through Middleton Moor on our way to a 'clocks back'
session at the Middleton Bell; place of the Boxing Day Cutty Wren procession.
Track 8 Rocks of Rodel - Trad arr. KTM
This hypnotic work song from the Hebrides, has become our signature tune, and frequently requested at gigs. It is a waulking
song that comes from the ancient line of women's work song tradition.
Track 9 Hats Off to Fred - J.Ramirez arr. KTM
Dedicated to the Guichen Brothers, a Breton melodeon and guitar duo whose amazing playing has inspired us on innumerable
occasions. Especially their captivating duo gig at Cap Frehel. Northern Brittany in the summer of 2007.
Track 10 Parapraxis; G.Davis
Ginny came across the word parapraxis on Google, thought it was a brilliant name for a tune and decided to write one.
It was only after she had written it she decided to check its meaning! If you want to know; go and look it up!
Track 11 Frog and the Mouse; Trad, arr KTM
Some of you may recognize this song from primary school or from some of the other artists that have recorded it. Even
if this is new to you the irresistible sense of fun is infectious.
Track 12 About Time; Davis/ /Ramirez/ Jones
This track was devised as a group work after deciding upon the name of the CD. It's crazy time signature slips between
5/8 and 19/8.
